Recollections back to 1963...

Many things have changed in the last 34 years. One of the most amazing things was the area itself. It had "gone back to nature", the campground has been closed for years. A pine tree with a 6" trunk is now where my 1963 glow-in-the-dark station was. I found a new location nearby and set-up the solid state 1996 station.

My thoughts of QRP have evolved too! The '63 single tube transmitter output was about 3 watts or so, and my home station was always less than 100W. I joined a QRP Club that proudly proclaimed that I would run less than 100W, the same club credo is now 5watts or less, and many run in the milliwatts.

Communicating from a special place can make it more special. Solid state technology has made it possible to take a small battery-powered transceiver to the outdoors and enjoy the magic of Ham Radio and the grandure of Nature. Find your places and make your memories.
