QRP Contest Activity- WB6FZH/KH6

QRP Contest Activity- WB6FZH/KH6

I try to participate in contests at QRP level because during contests there are many stations listening, they do not care if you are S3 or 20/S9, they just want to exchange information with you. It is always fun to listen to the astonishment in voices when you give your power level during some contest exchanges.

The same DX contests that were so much fun in Northern California, are not quite the same out here...You are DX and the other DX stations do not or can not exchange information with you. Thank goodness, there are many contests that do not have that barrier(CQ WW,etc).

QRP contests, especially QRP to QRP is alot of fun. Code speed slows down and greater care seems to be present pulling each milliwatt of signal into your log entry. Some of the "sprint" contests are difficult, as the propagation from KH6 to the "Mainland" is often not good during these short contest hours.

You will note many of my contest scores are low in comparison to the other winning QRP stations using beam antennas. This is may be due to poor propagation, my vertical antenna and limited time. I have been very fortunate to win the ARRL DX Contest Hawaii Section of the Pacific Division for several years now. In the spirit of the QRPIARC I try to use skill not power.
